Meals from frozen squid

If you’re really looking to save money and time in the kitchen, then we have good news: squid is an excellent base for making delicious meals that are both affordable and convenient. Squid must be thawed before you start cooking it, but this can be done quickly either by leaving it in the sink with some cool water running over it or by placing it in a bowl of cold water for about 20 minutes. Once it’s thawed out, though, all kinds of delicious dishes can be made from frozen squid. Here are some favorites:

How to cut squid?

Cutting squid can be a little tricky, but it’s really not that bad. If you’re using frozen squid, just thaw it in the refrigerator overnight and then cut it up.

To cut off the head and tentacles: use your sharpest knife to slice through the body of the squid at its widest point (just above its eyes). Then gently lift off each side of skin until you reach where they meet in back; this should reveal a line of cartilage connecting them together. Cut through this cartilage with your knife and discard both sets of body parts–they won’t be eaten anyway!

Now it’s time for some good old fashioned slicing action! Use that same sharp blade on either side of each ring before washing thoroughly under cold water; this will remove any residual blood or gunk left behind by other people who have handled these little guys before us (ew!).

How to make meals from squid

Stir fry with garlic and chilis

To begin, you will need to cut the squid into thin rings. You can do this with a sharp knife or by hand, but be careful not to cut yourself! Next, chop up your garlic and chili peppers. Heat up some oil in a pan over medium heat and toss in both (or just one if you're using spicy squid).

Cook until fragrant, then add your sliced squid and cook until pink on both sides–about two minutes per side should do it! Serve hot with rice or noodles on the side.

Squid, peppers, tomatoes and onions

Heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a pan over medium-high heat, add the squid and cook for 2 minutes on each side. Add more oil if needed. Season with salt and pepper to taste and transfer to a plate when done.

Add 1 clove garlic, finely chopped; 1 small red onion, finely chopped; 1 red bell pepper (or use orange), seeded and sliced into strips; 1 green bell pepper (or use orange), seeded and sliced into strips; 1 tomato cut into 8 wedges; 2 tbsp capers (optional) to the same pan you cooked your squid in along with another drizzle of oil if needed then saute until tender but not mushy – about 5 minutes depending on how soft you like your vegetables cooked!
